When asked to design a one off house, we are passionate about sustainable construction and solutions, so it was exciting when the client for this job was so keen to create an ‘eco home’. Mr & Mrs Vickers approached Dot to create their new family home on the generously sized plot in the sought after area of Branksome Park. The proposal was to create a dwelling that sits naturally within the site. The generous proportions of the existing dwelling have allowed for the introduction of a new storey and due to the site topography, we were able to recess the rear portion of the lower ground floor within the landscape. The material treatment of this element is timber to create the sense that the two story home above, in contrasting white, is the only built form on view.
The continuity of the building is reflected in the detailing within the buildings projections. These are to be be clad in timber to match the lower ground floor. The building will also have a small contrasting coping around the rendered projections to ensure water will not run down the face of the building discolouring the render.
The main feature to the property was the connection to the Sylvania setting using large expanses of glazing through the whole property, with a huge open plan living area at ground floor, and terrace to make the most of its outlook.
