‘Bournemouth’s first railway hotel built c.1880 to serve the new Bournemouth West Station (1874). A landmark building, isolated and well preserved, with an interesting mix of architectural styles. Red brick with a wealth of embellishments typical of the transitional ‘fin de siècle’ style. Pre-dating nearby buildings, this represents an important step in developing Bournemouth for the mass market’. Since 1880, Bournemouth has changed, and as such the Midland was no longer viable as a Hotel. Dot were approached to restore the building to its former presence, our proposal to convert to residential flats was well received, restoring the original features and reinstating others, such as the ornate wrought iron canopy.
